CFR helps faculty members by:
- Advising on alignment with specific funders and directing funders to UCSF projects that fit their interests
- Conducting prospect research
- Supporting proposal development with editing and deep rhetorical and strategic assistance
- Coordinating site visits
- Disseminating open Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
- Negotiating and vetting gift agreements and advising on gift vs. grant vs. contract issues
- Providing general fundraising consultation and guidance, either one-on-one or via group presentations

- The Research Development Office (RDO) oversees the intramural Resource Allocation Program, the extramural Limited Submission Program, and other initiatives to support researchers with large grants and team science.

- Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) assists researchers with proposal development and administers funding mechanisms such as the Catalyst Awards.
